In April 2025, JERA C, Inc. and EDF Trading Ltd integrated their respective Japanese power trading businesses into JERA Global Markets, the exclusive fuels optimizer and joint venture of both companies. Position Description The Front Office Software Engineer will focus on delivering immediate and incremental value to the power trading desk by enhancing existing platforms and developing new capabilities. This role will be embedded within the trading team and will require strong relationship-building, stakeholder management, organizational, and technical skills. As a Front Office Software Engineer supporting the power business, you will: ・Embed within the power business, working directly with traders, analysts, and operators to collaboratively and iteratively deliver and manage prioritised backlog ・Manage stakeholder relationships with power business, ensuring high degree of satisfaction ・Engage with and maintain relationships with peer IT teams to ensure delivery aligns with agreed standards and practices ・Be flexible and agile at tackling issues with a range of techniques required, Excel, Python, C#, SQL Server, Databricks, Service Bus, Signal-R, Angular, Azure services, PowerShell Bash, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, Devops, Bicep etc. ・Understand the broader context of requests to maximise the value of delivered solutions and minimise rework ・Ensure code is readable and maintainable, build robust, high-quality systems using modern software engineering practices, including automated unit/integration testing and automated deployment ・Demonstrate curiosity and take ownership of learning and research to gain deep understanding of how the power trading business operate, including the full trade lifecycle, to enable effective communication with stakeholders ・Provide production support for systems developed ・Collaborate with platform engineering team to deploy solutions into JERAGM’s IT infrastructure in a sustainable way ・At least 3 years relevant work experience ・A good understanding of the trade lifecycle for financial and physical commodities (including power, gas, coal, LNG or physical oil). ・Working knowledge of how to build performant Excel applications; an understanding of the strengths and limitations of Excel, and how to best use features and technologies like Power Query, Formulae, VBA, C add-ins, Python add-ins. ・Working knowledge of.Net framework (C#.NET Core, Web API) for tackling larger scale problems such as service development and real-time data processing. ・Working knowledge of Python; along with an understanding of the limitations of the Python ecosystem and when other technologies may be appropriate ・Working knowledge of the modern web development ecosystem and proficiency in technology stacks such as Angular or React ・Experience with database design (relational and non-relational), particularly using SQL Server or Oracle ・Ability to architect and design solutions using established software engineering practices: o Data modelling (Relational Datawarehouse) o Distributed messaging systems o SOLID principles o Strong understanding of code and systems design patterns ・Experience using cloud services or very strong desire to develop cloud skills ・Flexibility to work with Kanban and Scrum agile delivery models ・Good coverage of software development tools: o Source code management (Git) o Scripting and Automation (bash, powershell, azure cli) o Build and Release Management (Azure devops pipeline YML) o Infrastructure as code (Bicep Terraform) o Test automation (unit testing, integration testing, Cucumber/SpecFlow, UI testing) o Microservice architectures using containerised services with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm ・Proficiency in English is desirable.
