A proposed redesign for the TVs section of the Consumer Reports website. CR is a trusted consumer research company that needed a more modern, flexible site that both looked great and was easy to use. I worked on an agile product development team that was tasked with building a beta product that would become part of the foundation for a brand new site.

Exploring a Better Ratings System

CR scores products on a scale from 0 to 100, but very few products tested ever get close to a perfect score. We needed to convey this to users and show some context for the overall score.

Her are some ideas using a color scale to reflect the range of scores.

Ratings Breakdown

Another challenge we had was helping the user make sense of the product ratings. The overall score of a product is calculated based on a series of ratings. These were some ideas on how to breakdown the ratings.

In addition to seeing ratings on the model pages, we needed to make it easy for users to scan and understand the ratings system on first glance. Here were some ideas.
